Skold as Ice

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:05:23 GMT

Skold as Ice: Many might know Tim Skold best as a member of Marilyn Manson, or maybe KMFDM. But for us, he’ll always be the main guy in Shotgun Messiah. That Swedish glam metal band took an industrial left turn at album number three, and yet the quality didn’t dip at all. His transition was seamless, hence his later gigs. Hopefully Skold will play some Shotgun Messiah songs at the Whisky. Clockwork Echo, Grimm, Vanilla Sugar and Adam Zoom also perform.Back in 2019, we asked Skold if he had any fond memories of L.A.“Yes and yeah,” he said. “We did a tribute show with Shotgun Messiah at the Troubadour in the early 90’s with a crazy girl climbing the light rig and a couple nights at the Wiltern with Marilyn Manson in 2004 I think that was special. I could go on and on, there are many other great shows I remember very well. Los Angeles is always a little extra stressful because it is home but I love it.”We also asked him how he thinks his sound has evolved.“...

If not Shohei, then who? Ten non-Ohtani trade targets that could upgrade SF Giants’ roster

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:05:23 GMT

Will they or won’t they? It’s the question that will dominate baseball for the next week leading up to next Tuesday’s 3 p.m. PT trade deadline. If the Angels are willing to trade Shohei Ohtani, the Giants should exhaust every organizational resource available to make that deal happen. He’s doing things the game has never seen before, instantly adds an ace and a middle-of-the-order bat to any contender and, with international television rights and advertising, is a cash cow.For those reasons, Ohtani likely isn’t going anywhere. The Angels’ postseason odds are slim (13.6% per FanGraphs), but they are still closer to playoff position this late into the season than any time since they signed Ohtani. That means the Giants will likely have to wait until this offseason, when 30 teams will commence in the free-agent pursuit of a lifetime, expected to end in the richest contract ever signed by an athlete in any of North America’s four major pro sports le...

UPS and Teamsters reach a labor deal, potentially avoiding a crippling strike

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:05:23 GMT

By Vanessa Yurkevich | CNNUPS and the Teamsters have reached a tentative deal on a new contract. That could potentially avoid a strike, which could have started as soon as next week and crippled US supply chains.“UPS and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union representing about 330,000 UPS employees in the U.S., have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement,” the company said in a statement. The deal comes as the American labor movement has grown increasingly energized and empowered. The pandemic sent lower- and middle-class US workers’ pay surging for the first time in decades, but contract workers missed out on much of those gains. That’s why unionized actors, writers, nurses and teachers have recently gone on strike, and UPS workers and autoworkers have threatened walkouts.“Together we reached a win-win-win agreement on the issues that are important to Teamsters leadership, our employees and to UPS and our customers,” said Carol Tomé, UPS chief executive ...

Opinion: Religious bling offends me

Editor’s note: This story is part of the annual Mosaic Journalism Workshop for Bay Area high school students, a two-week intensive course in journalism. Students in the program report and photograph stories under the guidance of professional journalists.Going to the mall, I would often see young adults pass by, wearing high-quality outfits with silver and sparkly crucifixes wrapped around their necks. I am not sure if they believed in God or not, but it interested me, as a believer, if they were flaunting their shiny pieces of jewelry for a reason. It made me question what made them want to wear such pieces. Is it a way to express their beliefs or is it a way to fit in with the crowd? The wearing of religious pieces of jewelry should not be normalized as a fashion statement. Individuals who do so without taking part in that faith are wrong.Today’s society already normalizes wearing crosses on their regular outfits, and some even go as far as tattooing a cross onto their body without ...

Seattle looking to end franchise-worst nine-game losing streak

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:05:23 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — Jewell Loyd has never been part of a losing streak like the one that Seattle is on right now. The Storm have dropped a franchise-record nine straight games heading into Tuesday night’s game at New York. Her rookie year Seattle lost five in a row — the longest one she’s been a part of prior to the current one.“It’s something that’s different,” Loyd said Monday after practice. “But as long as you’re trying to get better, long term that’s what I look at. … No one likes to lose and it’s not something that we love to do. No one on this team is OK with losing. ”This was always going to be a transition year for the Storm with the retirement of Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart leaving for the Liberty in free agency. The Storm have many new faces and Loyd and Coach Noelle Quinn both said that this team is well bonded off the court.“Our group is very tight with one and another,” Quinn said. “There hasn’t been funky attitudes.
